FAIR Transparency is a project of the Foundation Against Intolerance &amp; Racism, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing civil rights and liberties, and promoting a common culture based on fairness, understanding, and humanity. By learning about how people are experiencing diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and programs, this project aims to move our institutions forward toward the <a href="https://www.fairforall.org/resources/glossary-of-terms/" target="_blank">pro-human</a> vision of Dr. Martin Luther King. &nbsp;

My son did not want to fill out a survey on Affinity Groups. His homeroom teacher said it was mandatory and threatened to take away his phone if he didn't fill it out. My son refused and said he felt uncomfortable. The teacher did not take his phone.

<div>On September 26, 2022, FAIR sent a <a href="https://www.fairforall.org/content/pdfs/general/Letter-New-Trier-Affinity-Groups-Pronoun-Surveys.pdf?_t=1664546509" target="_blank">letter</a> to New Trier High School District.&nbsp;</div>

<div>On September 28, 2022, legal counsel for New Trier High School District contacted FAIR to begin a constructive dialogue relating to the issues raised in FAIR's September 26, 2022 letter.&nbsp;</div>

<div>On October 6, 2022, FAIR received an <a href="https://www.fairforall.org/content/pdfs/general/Paul%20Sally%20Response.png?_t=1665687213" target="_blank">email response</a> from Dr. Sally. FAIR has responded to this email via counsel for New Trier in hopes of achieving greater clarity on these important issues.&nbsp;</div>

<div>On October 6, 2022, FAIR <a href="https://www.fairforall.org/content/pdfs/general/FAIR-response-Dr-Sally-New-Trier-Oct622.png?_t=1665752806" target="_self">responded</a> to Dr. Sally, via counsel for New Trier, seeking additional assurances.&nbsp;</div>

<div>On October 14, 2022, New Trier counsel <a href="https://www.fairforall.org/content/pdfs/general/New-Trier-Counsel-Response-to-FAIR-Oct1322.png?_t=1665752922" target="_blank">responded</a> to FAIR suggesting that the matter was closed, without further input from Dr. Sally. FAIR responded opining that the matter was no in fact closed, and that FAIR would appreciate the opportunity to continue the dialogue with New Trier.&nbsp;</div>
